The thought behind the first painting is 'Ignorance', it shows a girl taking a picture of herself through another girl's sunglasses. In the right sunglass is a bunch of kids who are guarded by a fence and are faceless. The girl taking the picture is also faceless, this is because I want the audience to interpret the painting in whatever way they want to. I put the words 'ignorance' and 'happiness' because it shows how much people ignore the poverty around us. We seem happy because we have everything but there are people in the world that don't have anything.
In this painting, I took a silhouette of myself and painted the word 'MONEY' around it several times. Inside the silhouette, I put the dollar sign several times too because I want people to look at the painting and see how much money means to people. The painting is all about money and how money takes over our lives. I want to remind people that there's more to life than money. It isn't the most important thing in the world. The painting is really plain but I chose to keep it this way because of the message I wanted to give across. The thought behind this piece is a person is taking a picture of the view while completely ignoring the poor girl at the car window. It shows how we ignore what's right in front of us while we just keep looking for the beauty. We ignore how little other people have because we have it all. This picture has a Mauritius based view and I incorporated my sister as the person begging at the car window. It makes it more personal to me because I went for a trip to Mauritius and realised how little some people have that they can't even afford to get on a bus to go to the beach whereas, people nowadays complain that they don't have the latest iPhone, and I too am guilty about that. This painting is like the 3 others, they are in the same series that I am creating called 'IGNORANCE', it shows a silhouette of a girl standing at a balcony facing the beach. The background, you can see a beautiful beach, but within the girl are the words 'HELP!,, DONATE, DANGER', a child, the middle finger to the dollar sign and a hand holding a gun to the head. Outside the head is the word 'MONEY'. This is very symbolic as it shows how money can get to our heads, people kill each other over money, it takes control of our lives and we don't think about anyone but ourselves when we have that money. I put the word 'DONATE' there because, while we have all that money, we can give it away to people less fortunate than us. It is a good deed and it will help someone have a life rather than living on the streets. |
